Statement on the War in Ukraine

July 12, 2022

On February 24, 2022, an unjustified and unprovoked war of aggression was launched against Ukraine by the Russian Federation. In the months since the invasion began, untold death, destruction, and human suffering has been unleashed on the cities and peoples of Ukraine. We condemn such heartless and cynical violence in the strongest possible terms.

The Cultural Wonders Project was envisioned as an organization that promotes peace through cultural understanding. Thus, it came as a shock that Russia and Ukraine, two countries with intertwined histories and cultures, could fall into such a war. In the face of war and the destruction of Ukrainian heritage, preservation and promotion of culture is more important than ever. We will therefore be publishing a map celebrating Ukrainian culture alongside this statement.

Immediately prior to the Russian invasion, we had completed a recreation of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, which was set to be released on March 1. In light of the suffering inflicted on Ukraine, we could not release such a work in good faith. We will therefore hold its publication until the end of hostilities.

We support peace. End this war.
